Central Karakorum National Park (CKNP)

The Central Karakoram National Park, which is Pakistan’s largest national park,
covering an area of about 10,000 sq. km. It holds world-class importance because four
of the planets fourteen 8,000-meter peaks are in this park. This park is remarkable
because it is the face of Pakistan for adventure tourists from all over the world. From
September to December 2022, HWF engaged with the Government – GB to upgrade
services and solid waste management issue along the trekking route, which has
become a significant problem requiring the attention of all concerned stakeholder.
Training for low-altitude porters (LAP) and high-altitude porters (HAP) will take place
before this year’s season starts. Ms. Sammar Sultan of Shan Foods, has offered to
sponsor the training for the porters. The CKNP board has requested a formal
agreement with FCNA staff to manage the Korophon pulley over the Biafo River for
travelers’ safety, and clean the wall chalking present. Mr. Sajid Ali Sadpara a renowned
climber has been chosen to lead the team for K2 cleanup this year.
